Ellen Kobe, Visual Arts, 2015

*1968 in Dresden, lives in Berlin and Potsdam

Ellen Kobe is an artist and curator. After studying at the Berlin Weißensee School of Art, she took up a residency at the Villa Arson in Nice, received a DAAD scholarship and completed her studies of fine arts with a diploma in Marseille, France. Her focus is on interventions in public space, performances/videos on institutional critique, the operating system of art and the culture of the absent. Over the last decades she has developed an independent approach to this, thinking performance from the absent and starting from the concept of the “missing link”. Her interest lies in the deconstruction of social rituals, especially in museums. With performances, she intervenes in existing structures, uses already existing spaces, materials and objects and thus initiates changes of perspective through minimal reinterpretations.
